Danzaira is a balletschool in Sittard, in the south of the Netherlands, Limburg. It is a small provincial town. The owner is Zaira Valencia, a teacher and choreographer originally from Mexico, now already living a long time in the Netherlands. She is a passionate woman who lives for the dance. Last year she gave lessons to a small group of boys, to let them experience that dancing is not only a “girlthing”. She did it for free.
She leads also DZ Company and organizes every year the “Danzon”festival in collaboration with the theater of Sittard. A week full of dance workshops for free and one or two masterclasses for a small fee. The highlight is a performance of her DZ Company and Taptroop. A select group of young talented dancers giving them the experience what it is to dance on stage in front of an audience. She does it for free, the only thing is that the dancers commit them selves to cometo the rehearsals ,in addition to their regular classes and give their full commitment.
This years performance is called “Entre el espanto y la ternura”, and tickets are available for 10 euro at the theater of Sittard. The performance starts with a compilation of my work on the song with the same title.
Also in that week there is a “demonstration day” were all the classes do a dance for their friends and family, But also for other visitors to show them what lessons they can follow at her school .
Here are e few of the photos I made during the rehearsals of this wonderful group of young dancers. Let the photos speak for themselves. Here you also will find some links to the festival.
